Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin dismissed Thursday's shocking 3.3 million unemployment claims as 'not relevant'
'I just think these numbers right now are not relevant,' Mnuchin told CNBC
Unemployment claims surged to 3.28 million - four times the previous record - last week as a result of the coronavirus pandemic
Mnuchin said the $2 trillion stimulus package before Congress will help
'The good thing about this bill is the president is protecting these people'
Legislation passed Senate Wednesday night; House to vote on it on Friday
It also will send individual checks to Americans
Mnuchin said checks will be out in three weeks
'We're determined to get money in people's pockets immediately,' he said
