Videos and photos have been posted on social media showing the volcano belching ash. Smaller rumblings started over the weekend, though the largest eruption was on Monday.
Indonesian officials put Sinabung on the second-highest alert level, warning all residents to keep three miles away from the crater for fear lava flows could decimate the area.
