In a country that's been on lockdown for most of the past two years, Australians are facing a new threat: Citizens who were fined for breaking the country's draconian COVID rules are having their homes seized and bank accounts frozen in the government's effort to collect the $5.2 million it's issued in fines.
The government is also trying to collect for hotel bills incurred by travelers forced to quarantine there under the COVID rules.
Because the fines and amounts owed are so high, some people have had to resort to time payments. Others, who can't or won't pay, are referred to debt collectors who are clamping down by "garnishing bank accounts or wages, registering charges over property or suspending driver licenses," Daily Mail reported.
