This week, former Colorado State Senator Polly Baca said of U.S. Air Force veteran, Gregory Williams of Broomfield, "My family has been in Colorado for several hundred years before your family got here. We founded Colorado and helped write our state constitution. Go back to Europe or wherever you came from. We don't need ignorant people who don't know our history here in this state. Your hate-filled and misguided ramblings don't deserve any further response."
In a country where minorities hurl racist charges at everyone that stands up for the U.S. Constitution, Baca’s comments create an acid taste in the mouths of all Americans. The United States provides more immigration, food, housing, medical care and opportunities for more people around the world than all other nations combined.
The fact remains, Baca’s forefathers consisted of “Conquistadors” or conquerors. Men like Spaniard Francisco Pizarro destroyed the Inca civilization. Cortez and other Spanish thugs slaughtered millions of Native Americans. Mexican General Santa Anna killed aborigines with relish. And yes, white settlers obliterated Native Americans in a deadly conquest of North America.
No ethnic group can be proud of the destruction of North America wrought by guns and sword. To take it further, ALL ethnic groups have turned the American landscape into junk yards, trash, poisoned rivers, filthy air, chemicalized soils and overloaded cities. We’ve desecrated the landscape in 150 years from the pristine continent we purloined from the Native Americans.
But for Baca to spread venom that everyone outside her ethnic group should go back to Europe—does little to bring peace to America. In reality, she would have to go back to Spain.
Either we stand as a 21st century nation abiding by the rule of law, or we become much like the places illegal alien migrants escaped. Notice that Mexico doesn’t provide its citizens a reasonable life, which has led over 12 to 15 million of them to migrate to the USA illegally. If it’s so bad in the United States and racism hinders them, why do they stay here?
While Baca promotes illegal migration, legalizing criminal aliens, wants taxpayers to pay for her ethnic group, forces foreign languages into Colorado classrooms—and a host of other ethnic biases—she negates the rule of law.
As www.khow.com talk show host Peter Boyles said, “Baca offers an illusion, don’t break it, watch Arnie the Carnie, why are there walls around Coors Field and police to enforce tickets, why can’t we get in for free, let the undocumented fan pay less or get in for free. Let undocumented in for half the price….”
“I had to go through the laws to become a legal citizen,” a legal immigrant, David, said on Boyles’ show. “If we let illegal aliens to continue, it’s just wrong.”
Polly Baca may better serve Colorado and all legal citizens with a more balanced approach. She needs to respect legal citizens and those that abide by the rule of law. She might respect Coloradans working for a better future and standing up for law over lawlessness.
Her statement to Air Force veteran Gregory Williams, a man who served with honor and put himself in harm’s way for her to be able to speak and live freely, cannot be tolerated. “Go back to Europe or wherever you came from. We don't need ignorant people who don't know our history here in this state.”
We need more men like Gregory Williams and less of Baca’s destructive, racist rhetoric.
