More About: General OpinionOur new year: your new moment
Great moments like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, New Year’s,
4th of July and other special events present us with markers for new
beginnings. So much of our culture wraps
around traditions that revitalize our minds, hearts and spirits.
January elicits the beginning of a new year, a new time
period in our lives and a new perspective.
What will you do with your new moment?
How will you make your life better?
How will you support the lives of your children or friends better? How will you engage your community and country
better in 2013?
You enjoy a “new moment” in the history of your life. This fresh New Year opens endless
opportunities for your highest self-expression.
What would be your idea of an emerging vision of your life and community? You may be growing into a higher
consciousness with unfolding ideas and creative process.
While 2012 harbors sobering events like Newtown, Connecticut,
Aurora Movie Theater and Hurricane Sandy—life calls us toward living, thriving
and engaging. While we endure political
officials in Washington DC, each of us may choose to create a better life in
our own families and communities.
My father told me, “Son, if you want something done right,
you have to do it yourself.” As his youngster I add to his wisdom. Let’s co-create a better world. Let’s work with others to secure the
betterment of humanity on our shared planet.
While our country engages different ethnic groups, various
religions and confrontational political factions—it’s time for renewed
spiritual awakening. How can we prevent
some of the tragedies of the past? How
can we move away from violence and shift toward loving others and treating strangers
with kindness? How can we stop animal
cruelty, child abuse, domestic mistreatment and other negatives?
Answer: you in concert with others!
No matter what the great challenges of 2013, we hold the
solutions to what happens in this world.
We need our eyes to see and our hearts to open to workable
possibilities.
The world in 2012 showed us the futility of wars like Iraq
and Afghanistan. Yet, few spoke against
those 10 year long wars. What might you
do in 2013 to halt the insanity of our war in Afghanistan? You must understand that our leaders will
continue that war until we citizens of this Republic speak out against it. If we fail to take action, that war will continue
for two solid more years until the end of 2014. It will kill and mutilate hundreds
and even thousands of innocent people including our own kids.
Please remember what my minister said this past Sunday: “A little consideration of what happens around
us shows us that our small actions count toward making the world a better
place.” If you persist, something will
happen.
As Thoreau said, “If you advance
confidently toward your dreams, and endeavor to live the life which you have
imagined, you will meet with success unexpected in common hours. You will pass
through invisible boundaries and you will live with the license of a higher
order of beings.”
Embrace your good. Get
to know and expand the depth and width of yourself. Appreciate your unique talents. Express your gifts. Gallop into the future.
On my cork board above my computer, I created a verse I read
every day: “Lean into life, always in
gear, turn frustration into fascination.”
In 2013, each of us can use our innate power and wisdom as
well as our experiences and actions to move humanity toward a higher destiny. On one of my world bicycle journeys, I
stopped at the Oracle of Delphi in Greece. On that magnificent mountain overlooking
the ancient Mediterranean Sea, I visited a statue of the Greek God Apollo. An inscription
read, “Know Thyself”. Step up to understand
and appreciate yourself, your gifts and your spiritual foundation.
You represent a unique human being of one. Over 7.1 billion humans live, work and play
on this planet. Let each of us co-create
a higher destiny by our actions in America and around the world—one person,
taking positive actions either individually or in groups will create a better
world.
We are all part of “The thing itself” or God or the Great
Spirit or the Universal Mind, and we can utilize Its gifts through our actions.
Whenever possible, my wife and I participate in “grounding
or Earthing.” In order to reconnect with
Mother Earth, we take off our shoes on a backpack trip or a bicycle ride or
camping trip, and we press our feet to the ground for 30 minutes while we talk. We do this almost daily during the summer. We “re-harmonize” our spirits and vibrations
with our planet home. Try it! You will
be pleasantly delighted.
In this “new moment” of 2013, expect your renewed sense of “spirit”
in your being. Watch for it. Develop it.
Engage it in nature.
Move into this New Year with your divine life by finding it
at spiritual centers, in groups or simply walking through the woods. Discover your sacred connection via your
favorite author, book or friend. Apply
your spiritual power by helping someone in need or volunteering your time. Play with your kids instead of zoning out in
front of the television.
Such actions will return you to abundance in your life. Those actions create happiness in your mind
and a sense of fulfillment in your being.
Such actions will take the place of drugs, booze, food and
watching endless TV.
Thus, in this gifted “new year” of yours, expand into a
whole new universe of mental, physical and spiritual exploration.
“Time is a companion that goes with us on a journey. It
reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as
how we lived.” Captain Jean Luc Picard,
Starship Enterprise
