Jeff Sessions' Senate Testimony
by Stephen Lendman
Parading Comey, former CIA director John Brennan, NSA's Michael Rogers, former DNI James Clapper, Sessions and others before congressional committees is part of a diabolical plot.
It aims to continue vilifying Russia, along with denigrating and weakening Trump, both strategies without just cause - a slow-motion coup d'etat scheme to oust and replace the president with easily controlled Pence.
He's a convenient puppet in waiting, maybe part of what's going on, his eye on the prize perhaps too irresistible not to grab.
The whole ugly episode follows numerous earlier and ongoing disturbing ones in US history.
They include fantasy democracy, slavery, exterminating Native Americans, endless imperial wars, communist witch-hunts, persecuting Muslims and Latino immigrants, Wall Street atop the corporate pecking order running things, the nation's global gulag prison system, torture as official policy, and police state harshness targeting nonbelievers - among other affronts to humanity.
On Tuesday, Sessions testified about nonexistent collusion between Trump's team and Russian officials - the whole thing made up, not a shred of evidence suggesting it, just baseless allegations and claims.
In the court of public opinion, Trump's team is guilty by accusation - the way all police states operate.
Lacking credible proof disputing him, Sessions, in his opening remarks, correctly said:
"Let me state this clearly, colleagues. I have never met with or had any conversation with any Russians or any foreign officials concerning any type of interference with any campaign or election in the United States."
"Further, I have no knowledge of any such conversations by anyone connected to the Trump campaign."
"Any suggestion I participated in or was aware of collusion with the Russians is an appalling and detestable lie."
Before joining the Trump administration, as a US senator he met twice with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak and his counterpart from other countries.
So did many other congressional members - Republicans and Democrats. It's longstanding practice, all or at least most nations operating the same way.
Asked why he recused himself from the (witch-hunt) Russia investigation, he cited Justice Department regulation 28 CFR 45.2, stating:
An "employee participating in a criminal prosecution with a personal relationship…with a political campaign, closely identified with a candidate or an elected official" must recuse himself or herself.
Citing a longstanding Justice Department rule, he explained he's "not able to discuss, confirm or deny private conversations I may have had with the president about this or any other matter."
Televised congressional witch-hunt episodes like Comey's testimony and now Sessions' is a chance for Americans to witness abuse of power firsthand - for those savvy enough to understand.
Sadly most don't, blaming victims instead of responsible parties. In terms of what's ongoing now, anti-Trump deep state elements, with undemocratic Democrats and scoundrel media support, aim to topple Trump for the wrong reasons.
The notion that his team colluded with Moscow to defeat Hillary is absurd on its face. If true, evidence would have come out long ago - impossible because none exists.
Allegations, insinuations and accusations are bald-faced lies. Yet millions of Americans believe them.
Most erroneously think Russia interfered in last November's presidential election. About 40% believe Trump's team colluded with Moscow - a shocking indictment of public ignorance.
Too few understand the end game is ousting Trump - by rendering him too weak to govern forcing his resignation, an old-fashioned coup d'etat, or more sinister means to remove him from office.
It's how all rogue states operate - America by far the worst. Its longstanding deplorable history speaks for itself.
