Trump Regime's Middle East Envoy Resigns

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

On Thursday, the White House announced Jason Greenblatt's resignation.

Trump tweeted that he's "leaving (in the coming weeks) to pursue work in the private sector."

Greenblatt earlier served as a Trump Organization corporate lawyer — perhaps returning to the company.

He and Trump's son-in-law/slumlord Jared Kushner, both Zionist ideologues, spearheaded the regime's dead before arrival no-peace/deal of the century peace plan.

The scheme all about serving Israeli interests exclusively at the expense of fundamental Palestinian rights — offering them unconditional surrender terms, accept or suffer more than already.

Trump, Greenblatt and Kushner are geopolitical know-nothings. They oppose Palestinian self-determination and their other fundamental rights.

The support Israeli high crimes against long-suffering Palestinians. Greenblatt earlier reinvented Israeli history, ignoring the Nakba and endless Nuremberg-level high crimes following the Jewish state's creation.

He falsely called apartheid Israel democratic, treating Jews one way, Palestinians another, persecuting its Arabs citizens, terrorizing Occupied Palestinians — what can't be papered over no matter how hard Zionist ideologues try.

Like most others in Washington, Trump, Greenblatt and Kushner consider Palestinians guilty of Israeli crimes committed against them — how the blame game always works in the West and Jewish state.

Greenblatt turned truth on its head, claiming the Trump and Netanyahu regimes aim to "bring peace and prosperity to the Palestinians" — notions the US and Israel abhor.

In late June, the economic portion of Trump's peace plan was introduced in Manama, Bahrain, a fascist dictatorship, terrorizing its own people.

The scheme involves securing a $50 billion investment fund for infrastructure and business projects.

It's unclear where the money is coming from and under what terms — whether a gift, a loan, a combination of both, and what return on investment donors/lenders expect.

It's very clear that the scheme is all about benefitting Israel and other privileged interests exclusively at the expense of ordinary Palestinians.

Without resolving key political issues, the economic proposal is meaningless. Who'll invest billions of dollars for development in a de facto war zone?

The Trump regime's vision of "a new reality in the Middle East" is old wine in new bottles — Palestinians denied their right to live in peace on their own land in their own country, Israel's repressive boot stomping on them without letup.

The bottom line of what went on in Bahrain and may follow is that Trump's no-peace/deal of the century peace plan was dead before arrival — a scheme to leave oppressive Israeli apartheid rule in place.

PLO executive committee member Hanan Ashrawi called Greenblatt's resignation "a final admission of failure," adding:

"They tried to bash the Palestinians into submission, to blackmail us to accept whatever their plan was. From the beginning it was doomed to failure."

Greenblatt (and Kushner are) "apologist(s) for (apartheid) Israel…defender(s) of (indefensible) extrem(ist) hard-line policies of this (regime) in Israel…(individuals) who (hold) its ideologically right-wing views."

They were "always on a crusade to malign the Palestinians and justify anything the Israelis do."

They're "more suited to be…spokesm(en) for Israel. (The Trump regime) certainly is not one that has been friendly to the Palestinians, and all the people it has appointed have the clear prerequisite of being pro-Israel and holding an ideological commitment to Zionism and extreme Israeli hard-line policies."

Hamas called Greenblatt's resignation "good news," signifying "failure."

Earlier he showed profound ignorance, contempt, or a combination of both about Jerusalem's history, falsely saying:

"There is no international consensus about Jerusalem. And no international consensus or interpretation of international law will persuade the United States or Israel that a city in which Jews have lived and worshipped for nearly 3,000 years and has been the capital of the Jewish state for 70 years is not – today and forever – the capital of Israel."

He ignored the UN-designated international city status, respected by nearly all world community members.

He was silent about Israeli grand theft, stealing another people's country — 78% in 1948, the rest in 1967, a high crime gone unpunished.

He calls illegally occupied Palestinian territory disputed, polar opposite reality. His worldview is one-sidedly pro-Israel, entirely dismissive of fundamental Palestinian rights.

He lied claiming Israel's June 1967 war of aggression was a "defensive war it had no choice but to fight…" Israeli generals waging it explained otherwise years later.

He's mindless of countless UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, condemning Israeli actions, including SC Res. 2334 (December 2016), saying:

Settlements have "no legal validity and constitute a flagrant violation under international law."

It demanded that "Israel immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem."

It recognizes no territorial changes "to the 4 June 1967 lines, including with regard to Jerusalem, other than those agreed by the parties through negotiations."

It "(c)alls upon all States, to distinguish, in their relevant dealings, between the territory of the State of Israel and the territories occupied since 1967."

It "(c)alls for immediate steps to prevent all acts of violence against civilians, including acts of terror, as well as all acts of provocation and destruction, calls for accountability in this regard…"

Security Council resolutions are binding international law — time and again breached by the US, NATO, Israel and their imperial partners.

Trump, Greenblatt and Kushner support Netanyahu's rage last July, saying:

"In any peace plan, not a single settlement or a single settler will be uprooted. The army and the security forces will continue to control all the territory up to the Jordan River, and Israel's capital Jerusalem will remain united."

On June 30, 1980, Security Council members unanimously passed Resolution 476 (the US abstaining), declaring "all legislative and administrative measures and actions taken by Israel, the occupying Power, which purport to alter the character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem have no legal validity and constitute a flagrant (Fourth Geneva) violation."

Israel claiming the city, "complete and united, as (its) capital" has no legal standing. East Jerusalem is illegally occupied territory.

History and other cold hard facts, differing from Israel claims and aims, are suppressed by establishment media and Zionist ideologues like Netanyahu, Greenblatt and Kushner — mortal  enemies of peace, equity and justice.
