Virgin Galactic sold space tourism tickets it can't legally honor

Traveling to outer space, even just the very brink of it, is a pretty complicated task. That's a lesson the folks at Virgin are learning first hand right now, as the Federal Aviation Administration has yet to issue the multi-billion dollar corporation a space travel permit.

Without this permit, nobody who isn't test-flight personnel will be able to board Space Ship Two as it rockets its way to the edge of space. Incidentally, that means that not even Sir Richard Branson himself can garner a seat aboard his space plane. Neither can any of the nearly 700 people who have shelled out upwards of $200,000 apiece for the right to a seat.
