The Tenth Amendment is vital to protecting our liberties
7/22/09
•
The Examiner
Recently many states have been passing resolutions affirming their rights and sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. With this in mind I thought it important to review the meaning and intent of this amendment and how it has come to be interpreted over time.
The Tenth Amendment guaranties sovereignty to the individual states. It is important o remember each state was a sovereign political entity, which voluntarily entered a compact, the Constitution. By doing so, the states decided to give up some sovereignty in order to achieve certain goals. More....

Congress reviewing proposal to force all workers to be fingerprinted
07-22-2009
•
Arizona Republic
To reduce fraud and discrimination, a federal system to verify that workers are U.S. citizens or legal immigrants
must use biometrics such as fingerprints or iris scans, experts told a Senate panel Tuesday.
The current E-Verify system, which checks employee-eligibility forms against records in the Social Security and Homeland Security databases, can be easily thwarted by illegal immigrants who steal or are given someone else's identity, experts said.
The only way to stop that kind of fraud is to focus on a person's
unique physical characteristics to identify them, said James Ziglar,
former commissioner of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and a senior fellow at the Migration Policy Institute.

Scottsdale-based American Traffic Solutions is boldly expanding their big-brother repertoire to go places never gone before: directly to your house. ATS will be managing a “litter enforcement program” in Baton Rouge: “workers are getting training on documenting blight with photographs and in generating warning letters and hearing notices to send to property owners.”
Violators face possible fines of $117, plus $50 in court costs if they fail to correct the violation within 15 days of receiving a warning letter. The new system also gives city-parish workers the right to clean up an uncooperative property owner’s parcel and add the costs to the owner’s annual tax bill.

EU666 Biodefense Stockpile and US666 Biodefense Stockpile

Maybe it’s interesting that vaccines that are stockpiled for
“biodefense” purposes carry the 666 designation, but for purposes of
the swine flue H1N1 vaccination that will be coming out in a few
months, this US666 and EU666 wouldn’t apply because it hasn’t been
stockpiled; it’s new.

The Hidden History of 9-11 insider trading
07-22-2009
•
Paul Zarembka
By Paul Zarembka
How much insider trading occurred in the days leading up to 9/11? How
compromised is the evidence against alleged hijackers because of
serious authentication problems with a key Dulles Airport videotape? To
what extent does the testimony of more than five hundred firefighters
differ from official reports of what happened at the World Trade Center
buildings that day? How inseparably connected are Western covert
operations to al-Qaeda? How is Islamophobia used to sustain US
imperialism?
Paul Zarembka is a professor of economics at the State University of
New York at Buffalo. Since 1977, he has been the general editor for
Research in Political Economy. He has authored Toward a Theory of
Economic Development, edited Frontiers in Econometrics, and co-edited
Essays in Modern Capital Theory.

In just 2 short months, a little-noticed case involving a former
detainee’s lawsuit against 2 Bush administration officials may have
become what one attorney called “the most significant Supreme Court
decision in a decade” affecting U.S. civil litigation.
Decided in May, Ashcroft v. Iqbal has already been cited over 500 times by lower courts, The New York Times reported on Tuesday.

Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert believes that it’s ridiculous to dwell on the past.
“If God wanted us to have hindsight, he’d have put eyes on our

torture debate.
“Haven’t they suffered enough?” Colbert asked in mock exasperation
about Bush officials who may be targeted if Attorney General Holder
appoints a special prosecutor to investigate torture allegations. “They
witnessed torture!”

Goldman buys back TARP warrants for $1.1 billion
07-22-2009
•
Reuters
Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said it has repurchased warrants given
to the U.S. Treasury under the Troubled Asset Relief Program for $1.1
billion.
The investment bank
said it believes the value of the warrants, as determined by the Treasury, was
fair.
As part of the Treasury's
$10 billion preferred stock investment in the bank last fall, the government
received warrants that would have enabled it to buy Goldman shares at a set
price in 10 years.
Goldman has
already paid back the $10 billion loan, as well as paying $318 million in
preferred dividends on the
investment.
