The Coming Media Bailout
08-25-2009  •  www.antiwar.com - Justin Raimondo
It looks like the government is preparing to come to the rescue of the mainstream media. You know the media that is soooo last century and getting its head handed to it by the media of the 21st century. The Feds are preparing to use the Federal Trade Commission, copyright and tax laws to attack the new media outlets.   It seems the corporate state is willing to go to any length to preserve those outlets that unquestioningly parrot the government's lies.  Read Full Story

The Shell Game - How the Federal Reserve is Monetizing Debt
08-25-2009  •  Chris Martenson
The Federal Reserve is monetizing US Treasury debt and is doing so openly, both through its $300 billion commitment to buy Treasuries and by engaging in a sleight of hand maneuver that would make a street hustler from Brooklyn blush. There are three major tripwires strung across our landscape, any of which could rather suddenly change the game, if triggered. One is a sudden rush into material goods and commodities, that might occur if (or when) the truly wealthy ever catch on that paper wealth is a doomed concept. A second would occur if (or when) the largest and most dangerous bubble of them all, government debt, finally bursts. And the third concerns the dollar itself. On the surface, the above chart hints at a potential disaster for a country that is embarking on the largest-ever federal debt binge in history. After all, if US assets are being shunned by foreigners, how will we find enough buyers? And what will happen to the dollar? The answers are: "We won'  Read Full Story

Stand up to unchecked political power
08-25-2009  •  East Valley Tribune / Ernest Hancock
Libertarian activist and radio host Ernest Hancock fired up concern about right-wing extremism around the country last week after he revealed to CNN's Rick Sanchez that he had planned the interview with someone who carried an AR-15 rifle to the protests outside of President Barack Obama's Aug. 17 appearance at the Phoenix Convention Center. At the Tribune's request, Hancock explains his motivations.

Patrick Henry - Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death

No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the House. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen if, entertaining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve. This is no time for ceremony. The question before the House is one of awful moment to this country. For my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery; and in proportion to the magnitude of the subject ought to be the freedom of the debate. It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and

The Petition on Behalf of the Distracted Drivers
08-25-2009  •  Michael Rompicazzi
A timely law, good gentlemen! In combining thousands of statistics, relevant hearsay, and the practice of coercive compliance, you concern yourself with your constituent, the citizen of Virginia . You wish to free him from the pain and tragedy of motor vehicle accidents caused by distracted driving. We, the citizens, however, feel the letter of the law must be taken farther. You have not pursued the affair to its conclusion: distracted driving is only a secondary offense, the fines are miniscule [$50], and despite the implementation of this law, motor vehicle accidents continue to rise in Northern Virginia and across the state!

We, the constituents of Virginia , humbly request that you pass a law banning all driving distractions. Away with the use of cell phones, GPS systems, and the radio, that entertainer [distracter]! Let us cast billbo

Seven Crimes to Consider Before Music Piracy
08-25-2009  •  Conor McCarthy

If you haven't heard yet, it's "illegal" to download music online without "paying" for it. It's hard to believe, but being a fan isn't accepted as legal payment anymore. They call it "piracy," and the consequences for it can be very, very dire. Therefore, I've compiled a list of other crimes that I suggest you look into before you decide to download "Sweet Child of Mine" or "Poker Face."

First, let's look at the fines in the only two music piracy trials that have taken place to date. The first is the case of Jammie Thomas, a single mother of four from Minnesota. She downloaded 24 songs off of Kazaa. A jury of her peers decided that she owed the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) almost $2 million for her crimes, a ruling which the Obama Administration recently told a federal judge was constitutionally sound. The second is the case of Joel Tenenbaum, a young grad student at   Read Full Story

China Construction Bank Sees Asset Bubbles Due to Excess Cash
08-25-2009  •  Bloomberg
China Construction Bank Corp. said excess cash in the banking system has led to asset bubbles, underscoring concern that the nation’s lenders will rein in credit after the Shanghai Composite Index’s 64 percent rally. “There are uncertainties in the economy and bubbles in the capital market,” Guo Shuqing, chairman of the nation’s second- largest bank, told reporters in Beijing yesterday. “China’s banking system still has excessive liquidity.

Audit The Fed "Dangerous"?
08-25-2009  •  The Market Ticker
Video "Problematic for the country" Tim? May I educate you on this petty little document you swore an oath to uphold against all enemies, foreign and domestic? The US Constitution, Article I, Section 8: To coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, and fix the standard of weights and measures; End of discussion. That power rests in the United States Congress, NOT THE FEDERAL RESERVE OR TREASURY. Congress is free to delegate that power as it sees fit but you are absolutely not empowered to interfere via bluster, threat or any other means Congressional Authority in this regard. If you are unwilling to discharge your oath of office you must resign immediately. If you attempt to subvert The Constitution of The United States you must be impeached, removed from office and, if there is evidence that the $24 trillion you are attempting to cover up the disposition of is in any way linked to any sort of favoritism or game-playing I argue tha  Read Full Story

Mo. Traffic Stop Yields Cash and Mystery

A routine traffic stop in St. Charles County two weeks ago has set federal agents on the trail of some kind of international intrigue they do not yet fully understand. It started Aug. 6 on Interstate 70, when St. Charles County sheriff's deputies stopped a black BMW suspected of speeding. The driver, Constatin Puiu, offered a Utah drivers license and told deputies he was returning home from Florida. [The comments are rather interesting]  Read Full Story

AP on Obama's Attempt to Drown Out Negative Deficit News
08-25-2009  •  Economic Policy Journal
Here's AP: Figures released by the White House budget office foresee a cumulative $9 trillion deficit from 2010-2019, $2 trillion more than the administration estimated in May. Moreover, the figures show the public debt doubling by 2019 and reaching three-quarters the size of the entire national economy... The grim administration projections came on a day of competing economic news. The Congressional Budget Office, which has predicted less economic growth than the White House in the past, was also scheduled to announce revised budget projections on Tuesday. Obama himself may have drowned out the rising deficit news with the announcement Tuesday that he intends to nominate Ben Bernanke to a second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve. The Bernanke news could neutralize any disturbance in the financial markets caused by the high deficit projections.  Read Full Story

Nick Coons will work with Ron Paul, Adam Kokesh, Rand Paul, and Peter Shiff to correct the egregious attack on our liberties by the united States government.

Libertarianism holds that each person has the right to their life, liberty, and justly acquired property; that each person is free to make their own life decisions, so long as they don't infringe on the same rights of others, and should take responsibility for the consequences of those decisions. Government should not be imposing these decisions on us.
