Britain's fury over settlement of Guantánamo Uighurs in Bermuda
06-15-2009
•
London Times
The British Government responded with ill-disguised fury to the news
that 4 Chinese Uighurs freed from Guantanamo Bay had been flown for
resettlement on Bermuda.
The Government of Bermuda failed to consult with the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office on the decision to take in the Uighurs "
whose return is demanded by Beijing " and it could now be forced to send
them back to Cuba or risk a grave diplomatic crisis.

Moving Towards Tobacco Prohibition

by Ron Paul. Last week, another bill was passed and signed into law that takes more
of our freedoms and violates the Constitution of the United States. It
was, of course, done for the sake of the children, and in the name of
the health of the citizenry. It’s always the case that when your
liberty is seized, it is seized for your own good. Such is the
condescension of Washington. The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco
Control Act will give sweeping new powers over tobacco to the FDA. It
will require everyone engaged in manufacturing, preparing, compounding,
or processing tobacco to

Sen. Durbin cashed out before big stock collapse
06-15-2009
•
Sun Times
[insider trading alert] As U.S. stock markets plummeted last September, the Senate's No. 2
Democrat, Dick Durbin, sold more than $115,000 worth of stocks and
mutual-fund shares and used much of the money to invest in Warren
Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. The Illinois senator's 2008
financial disclosure statement shows he sold mutual-fund shares worth
$42,696 on Sept. 19, the day after then-Treasury Secretary Henry
Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke urged congressional
leaders in a closed meeting to craft legislation to help financially
troubled banks.

Lloyds Bank hit by Obama tax purge
06-15-2009

Daily Telegraph
Lloyds Banking Group is ditching American customers based in Britain pending a
crackdown on international tax evasion planned by President Barack Obama.
This week American private client account-holders at Lloyds's received letters
informing them of an "important change in policy regarding clients who
are resident, domiciled or linked to the United States by property or asset
holdings".

Some people already have free government health care

Ta'Shon Rain Little Light, a happy little girl who loved to dance
and dress up in traditional American Indian clothes, had stopped eating
and walking. She complained constantly to her mother that her stomach
hurt.
When Stephanie Little Light took her daughter to the Indian Health
Service clinic in this wind-swept and remote corner of Montana, they
told her the 5-year-old was depressed.

Denninger: Proud To Be American? You Should Be Ashamed
06-15-2009
•
Market-Ticker.Denninger.net/
Americans have sat on their butts through all of this, allowed their 401ks and IRAs to be trashed, their supposed "home values" to be pumped and then destroyed, and their hopes, dreams, employment and house have all vanished into the ether of fraud.

DJ Wiltshire 5000 Index Thoughts
06-15-2009
•
arclein
For those who track stock market prices, a general index has always been a good tool.
The one that I like best is the Wiltshire 5000 now named the DJ Wiltshire 5000. With 5000 decently sized companies, it provides a fair sense of market breath for the core of the market itself.
In short, I feel greater confidence drawing inferences from that chart

Fossil Records on Insect Damage
06-15-2009
•
arclein
More than 55 million years ago, the Earth experienced a rapid jump in global carbon dioxide levels that raised temperatures across the planet. Now, researchers studying plants from that time have found that the rising temperatures may have boosted the foraging of insects. As modern temperatures continue to rise, the researchers believe the planet could see increasing crop damage and forest devastation.

My God, It's Full of Tsars
06-15-2009
•
C4SS / Thomas Knapp
Obama’s appointment of “tsars” to handle various policy issues (at
his behest, under his direction, and subject to his personal veto, of
course " but unlikely to be contested at all, let alone successfully,
at the “democratic” level) isn’t the problem. Rather it is just one of
the predictable final symptoms of a degenerative disease hard-coded
into the DNA of rule by the state.
Revolution in favor of another form of state may temporarily
mitigate that symptom, but only revolution in favor of the stateless
society has the potential to cure the disease.

Lawrenceville Plasma Fusion Update

•
arclein
I am actually optimistic about fusion energy science this time around. There has never been a real first time around to start with. It always was big science and huge budgets with oversized toys.
Now at least three or more methodologies are in contention and even if they fail miserably, we will gain knowledge for what is small change. If you have a good idea that could plausibly work, it is no big trick to run simulations and from that attract the money
