American Troops Hand Over Control in Iraqi Cities

Iraqi forces assumed formal control of Baghdad and other cities Tuesday
after American troops handed over security in urban areas in a defining
step toward ending the U.S. combat role in the country. A countdown
clock broadcast on Iraqi TV ticked to zero as the midnight deadline
passed for U.S. combat troops to finish their pullback to bases outside
cities.

Uncertainty Clouds Recovery of U.S. Investment in GM

If a new General Motors
emerges from bankruptcy as planned, U.S. financial aid for the company
will expand to nearly $50 billion, but neither the government nor the
company is forecasting how much of the public money will be repaid.
It's sure to be a stretch. For the United States to fully recover
its investment, the value of General Motors stock will have to reach
levels it has never before attained.

Under language approved last week in the fiscal 2010 Intelligence
Authorization Act, the House panel proposed doing away with provisions
that allowed a president to limit disclosure of sensitive intelligence
activities to the "Gang of Eight," the term used to identify the House
speaker and minority leader, Senate majority and minority leaders, and
the chairmen and ranking minority members of the House and Senate
intelligence panels.

North Korea criticizes U.S. missile system on Hawaii

North Korea criticized the United States Monday for positioning missile defence systems around Hawaii, calling it a plot to attack the reclusive regime. "Through the U.S. forces' clamorous movements, it has been brought to light that the U.S. attempt to launch a pre-emptive strike on our republic has become a brutal fact," the North's main Rodong Sinmun newspaper said in a commentary.

Leaders from Hugo Chavez to Barack Obama called for the reinstatement of Manuel Zelaya,
who was arrested in his pajamas Sunday morning by soldiers who stormed
his residence and flew him into exile. Eight leftist countries pulled
