11 People killed in Afghanistan Thursday

NATO is reporting that 11 people, including seven American troops, were killed Thursday in a helicopter crash in southern Afghanistan. The other casualties were "three members of the Afghan National Security Forces, and one civilian interpreter" according to a statement from the international military coalition.

An investigation is underway to find out what caused the crash as the cause is not currently clear. The Taliban have issued a statement claiming that their militants shot down the UH-60 Black Hawk. CBS News, however, claims the group "often issues claims which later turn out to be false or exaggerated". A spokesman for the Taliban, Qari Mohammad Yousuf, stated “we have weapons that can hit aircraft,” when asked to specify the type of weapon used to shoot the helicopter.
