World Community Failure to Uphold the Rule of Law

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

World reactions to likely Israeli responsibility for Mohsen Fakhrizadeh's assassination were hollow and toothless.

The US, other Western countries, Israel, and their imperial partners operate extrajudicially on the world stage with impunity.

In breach of its Charter principles, the UN secretariat and other key officials consistently ignore the highest of high US, NATO, Israeli high crimes — instead of condemning them and demanding accountability.

Instead of pursuing a new era of world peace and stability, the world body fails to condemn US, NATO, Israeli crimes of war and against humanity.

Instead of demanding respect for the sovereign rights of all nations,  free from foreign interference according to international law, the UN secretary general and other key officials do nothing to challenge Western and Israeli contempt for these rights.

The UN consistently supports powerful interests over peace, equity, justice, and the rule of law — abandoning its own Charter principles it breaches time and again by its actions and inactions.

Imperial USA and its partners are free to bludgeon, exploit, and otherwise abuse nations and their people with impunity.

If the world body was a nation, it would be a failed state, its principles breached, ordinary people everywhere betrayed.

In response to Fakhrizadeh's assassination, a hollow/weak-kneed/unacceptable statement was issued for UN secretary general Guterres through his spokesman.

Instead of condemning cold-blooded murder, pointing fingers at the likely perpetrator, and demanding accountability, Guterres urged "restraint and the need to avoid any actions that could lead to an escalation of tensions in the region."

His remark is similar to how he always responds to Western and Israeli high crimes, disgracing himself and the office he holds.

An EU statement was also unacceptable. Stopping short of what's vital to say and taking retaliatory actions, it said the following:

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh's assassination was "a criminal act and runs counter to the principle of respect for human rights the EU stands for."

What the body "stands for" is allying with US and Israeli imperial aims, their wars of aggression and other extrajudicial actions, their endless war on humanity.

Follow-up EU remarks expressed hollow condolences for family members of the murdered individuals — along with "wishing a prompt recovery to any other(s) injured," adding:

"In these uncertain times, it is more important than ever for all parties to remain calm and exercise maximum restraint in order to avoid escalation which cannot be in anyone's interest (sic)."

It's long past time for restraint. Staying "calm (and) exercising maximum restraint" encourages no end to imperial high crimes.

Challenging them appropriately is required.

Iranian parliamentarians began their challenge legislatively, their actions discussed in a same-day article.

Iranian ruling authorities will act in their own way at a time of their choosing.

The Trump regime, Pentagon, State Department and Israel declined to comment on Fakhrizadeh's assassination.

Guilty parties and all others have a right to remain silent under US law.

No one has the right to commit cold-blooded murder or be complicit with this action.

Israeli military intelligence-connected DEBKAfile (DF) turned truth on its head with the following Big Lies, saying:

Fakriazadeh headed Iran's "nuclear weapons" program (sic).

Iran still "march(es) toward a nuclear bomb and dominance in the region (sic)."

At the same time, DF is silent about nuclear armed and dangerous Israel, along with its hegemonic aims in cahoots with the US and EU.

In contrast to US and Israeli silence, along with the above hollow UN and EU remarks, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad called Fakhrizadeh's assassination a "terrorist act" committed by Israel and "those who supported" what happened.

Turkey's Parliament Speaker Mustafa Sentop tweeted the following:

"The assassination of the Iranian scientist was an act of terrorism. Whether it was committed by an illegal or a 'legal' organization or a state makes no difference."

"Terrorism is always terrorism. Anyone who commits an act of terrorism is a terrorist."

Venezuela's Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza condemned what he called a "terrorist attack."

Today is the most perilous time in world history. Ongoing events should terrify everyone.

We're consistently lied to by US and other Western regimes.

Establishment media operate as their handmaidens.

Fundamental rights are fast eroding en route to disappearing altogether in the West.

US and other Western governments are enemies of most people instead of serving their interests, according to the rule of law.

Enemies of peace, equity and justice run things.

Societies free and safe to live in are fast disappearing.

Whether Republicans or Dems run things in Washington, dirty business as usual continues without missing a beat.

The nation I grew up in was transformed into a thirdworldized police state.

Based on the current trend, the worst of times lie ahead.

Be very scared about what's coming — be very scared!

One more thing.

As hazardous to human health covid vaccines are about to be rolled out, anyone vaxxed will be inoculated with toxins able to cause serious illnesses and diseases at a later time.

That's why it's crucial for everyone valuing their health and well-being to avoid what may cause major grief and a shortened lifespan.
