No End to Israeli State Terror Ahead of 2021 Elections

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

For long-suffering Palestinians and Syrians cross-border, it matters little which Israeli regime runs things.

Scant differences separate them on what's most important for them, their fundamental rights ignored.

On Monday, hardliners infesting Israel's Knesset failed to agree on a 2020 budget.

As a result, a fourth election since 2018 is coming in March — Israel's parliament to dissolve at midnight Tuesday. More on this below.

While Israeli politicians dither and dicker, they're largely united in waging war on Syria, along with endless state terror on Occupied  Palestinians.

Brutalizing them is a daily affair, virtually no letup any time of year, including during the Christmas, New Year, Hanukah season.

On Monday, Israeli soldiers fired live rounds at Palestinians threatening no one near Nablus in the West Bank.

Reportedly, five were wounded, others affected by tear gas.

According to eyewitnesses, IDF soldiers stormed the area, violently burst into an electronics store, arrested and detained its owner and others in the area.

On the same day, nine or more West Bank Palestinians were detained for praying to the wrong God.

A Palestinian youth was lethally shot in East Jerusalem.

With IDF support, militant Israeli settlers assaulted Palestinian farmers in Susya village, south of Hebron in the southern West Bank.

The Yesh Din human rights group stressed that Occupied Palestinians "are constantly vulnerable to arbitrary invasion of their homes by Israeli security forces and the severe, resulting harm," adding:

"Invasions by the Israeli military into Palestinian homes in the West Bank are part and parcel to the routine of occupation and the system of control over the Palestinian population."

"Among the variety of practices that characterize Israel's military control over the West Bank, the harm caused by home invasions is particularly severe as it robs individuals, families and communities of the fundamental certainty that their home is their castle."

IDF home invasions occur multiple times daily — terrorizing Palestinians, traumatizing young children.

According to UN data, invasions of Palestinian homes occur around 200 times monthly. They're part and parcel of Israeli terror against Palestinians for not being Jewish.

On Tuesday, Adalah lawyers are challenging Israel's racist Nation-State Law before an expanded panel of 11 Jewish state Supreme Court justices.

The 2018 law codified racism as official Israeli policy. It enshrined Jewish supremacy and apartheid rule.

The latter is the law of the land, enacted into Israeli Basic Law, its equivalent of US constitutional law but much more contentious.

It's the Jewish state's version of Nazi Germany's Nuremberg Laws.

Israel is to Palestinians what Hitler's regime was to Jews – in both countries treated like subhumans, forced to endure virtually every type indignity, degradation and crime against humanity.

Palestinians and Israeli Arab citizens are discriminated against in virtually all aspects of their lives – their fundamental freedoms denied, their personal safety jeopardized by state terror.

The Adalah Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel filed a Supreme Court petition against the Nation-State Law weeks after its enactment.

It stressed that the unjustifiable law "denies the civil and national rights of Palestinians in their homeland," calling it "racist, colonialist and illegitimate."

Israel's High Court rarely ever affords Palestinians justice. It's highly likely that Adalah's petition will be rejected.

In mid-December, IDF chief of staff General Aviv Kochavi said its warplanes terror-bombed Syrian targets over 500 times in 2020 on "six fronts," adding:

"We operate in six areas intensively. There are arenas with activities on a daily basis and there are those with weekly or monthly activities."

Israel falsely claims its terror-bombing campaign aims to prevent Iran from gaining a foothold in Syria.

The Islamic Republic has military advisors in the country, not combat forces.

They're involved in aiding Damascus combat US, NATO, Israeli-supported ISIS and likeminded terrorists.

Iran fosters peace, stability, and cooperative relations with other countries.

Abhorring war, it seeks no confrontation with other countries in the region or elsewhere.

The US, Israel and their imperial partners pretend otherwise.

Claiming the Middle East is the world's "most…violent region," Kochavi failed to explain it's because of Israel's partnership with US regional aggression.

Instead of ending mutual cooperation between Iran and Syria, US aggression and Israeli terror-bombing drew both countries closer together.

In response to Knesset members' failure to agree on a 2020 state budget, the body dissolving on Tuesday, new elections following in March, Netanyahu tweeted the following:

Benny Gantz-led "Blue and White (party) dragged us to unnecessary choices during the corona crisis."

"We do not want elections and we voted against them tonight as well, but we are not afraid of elections" — claiming his Likud party will win.

Multiple parties compete when Israeli elections are held.

Throughout its history since 1948, no single party ever won an electoral majority.

Coalitions run the country. In March 2020 elections, Netanyahu's Likud won 37 of 120 Knesset seats, Blue and White four less at 33.

A coalition between them followed, Netanyahu retaining the upper hand.

Ahead of Monday's Knesset vote, efforts by Gantz to avoid another election failed, saying:

"I regret that the prime minister is preoccupied with his trial and not the public interest, and is prepared to drag the entire country into a period of uncertainty, instead of ensuring economic stability and a rehabilitation of the economy."

"If Likud won't meet our demands, we will head to elections with our head held high, having put Israel before everything else, and let the voters decide."

Opposition leader Yair Lapid slammed Netanyahu, saying:

"(W)ho are you kidding? You don't care about (covid). You only care about" retaining power.

As things now stand, the Knesset will dissolve on Tuesday.

Things will be in limbo ahead of new elections in late March, likely on the 23rd.

Gantz's Blue and White is on life support. According to recent polls, it's likely to win only a scant five seats in new elections, Likud likely to win 28.

New parties and/or alliances will likely join the race.

While Netanyahu is favored to retain power, an upset is possible given that much can happen during the next few months.
