Carter first polled at a 66 percent approval rating, dipping to 54 percent by September. Meanwhile, Obama has already tumbled down to 52 percent approval rating at the end of July, according to the latest Gallup survey.

Economist Anna Schwartz says President Obama shouldn’t reappoint Ben Bernanke as Federal Reserve Chairman. Bernanke has mishandled the financial crisis, argues Schwartz, who co-authored seminal works with Nobel laureate Milton Friedman. “I am certain that there are economists whose reputations for outstanding academic work in monetary policy are every bit as distinguished as Mr. Bernanke’s, and who have good judgment and experience within the Federal Reserve System,” she writes in The New York Times. “President Obama should choose one of them.” Schwartz faults Bernanke for the Fed’s massive easing program.

So now America sleeps on the ramifications of the Obama July 27 2009 doctrine, which issues an historic presidential decree saying that American consumers should consume less and the Chinese consume more. Before reading this commentary, you must first read our news coverage our news coverage and my early morning commentary. I have isolated 10 events that are likely to follow if the Obama doctrine actually comes to pass. It is by no means an exhaustive list. I think it highly likely that the doctrine will become a reality – firstly, because the previous system was always flawed for the long term and secondly, if the Americans were to continue to consume as before, they would find the Chinese will impose the Obama doctrine on them by restricting the amount of money available for US markets.

For Skype, the line could be going dead.

At issue is a key piece of software code licensed to Skype by a company called Joltid. For months, Joltid and Skype have been scrapping over the legal rights to the code – and now, the battle has gotten serious enough that eBay, which owns Skype, is getting worried. If Skype loses the right to the software code, “Skype’s business as currently conducted would likely not be possible,” eBay said in a quarterly filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
