Defining a Disaster

• Letter

The basic definition of a disaster, as defined by a country is the inability of the police, social service, medical and government to protect the citizens of the nation, county, city or neighborhood.  This means that none of the above have the capacity, because of natural or man made actions to do the job they were set up to do.

Today, these four departments are at their limits, thus bring about another point, what happens when the government agencies can not function because they are too small and unprepared.  What happens to you, personally when, because of a natural or man made disaster; water cut off, food supplies do not come into town, babies need to be born and the bridge is out, power is not flowing, do you do.

When disaster strikes, no matter the cause, you will see some people working together and others looting and harming anyone they want to.

What I am asking you to do is to think about how you would react.  Think about how you would lead or follow in a disaster situation and most of all take a few courses on health care, how to set bones, bring a baby into the world, sew up a cut, a few thoughts on water and personal safety and most of all how you would react!

If you give a little thought, planning, then if a disaster happens to you, you will be calmer and ready to react.

Thanks

Casey
