Are our vets as well as our men and women in uniform closer to Bush than Obama, as shown on last Thursday’s Veterans’ Day public appearances and television interviews?

And will the Turkey be so unforgiving of former President George W. Bush this coming Thanksgiving Day?

Maybe Bush is no longer a turkey-bashed celebrity when in the polls 64% favorable impression of him is more than double of former President Bill Clinton’s low point, two-thirds trusted him as Commander-In-Chief, 62% rated his honesty, and 68% scored him with a vision to see the future.

While Obama and Keith "Doberman" Olbermann attack and put all the blame of the nation’s problems on the shoulders of ex-President George W. Bush, this son of Texas true to the tradition of American decency in the mire of dirty politics which is so rare, had refrained himself from saying a single gutter word against Obama and his minions, and refused to go down to their level. This surprised me coming from this man of history so reprovingly criticized and demonized.

I am not saying that I like him, much more defending him against the attacks of harsh public opinion, but maybe if we let our human compassion overtake our outrage running at a blinding speed of sound, for a chance to look deeper into this man of legend and political marvel, we might see some lights in some of the darker sides of his presidency, and the shaded parts of our American history.

At some point in time, it was hard to deny even if a great number of Americans wanted to, that Bush is the man to hang. As Commander-In-Chief, Bush’s affinity with our men and women in uniform which is viewed much closer than that of Obama is something perhaps those of us who don’t adore him from day one, should behold with unabated curiosity rather than with vengeful contemptibility. Bush honored vets in Ohio. But caution. Don’t throw your ire and fireballs at me. I am just a reporter, not a judge, of public opinion. When your outrage is wrongly directed at me -- as in the case of the shooting of the messenger, not the message -- then it is just a waste of time and energy.
