What is Generation Next going to look like?

What is Generation Next going to look like?

By: Megan Duffield

If I looked around at the audiences we are gathering with Silver Circle’s release around the corner, I could paint a fairly nice predictive picture. If you don’t mind I’d like to attempt to describe the liberty culture’s direction in the coming years. That’s the Generation Next you and I care about right?

I bump into many youngsters at events around the country when carrying the Silver Circle flag. I’m not talking about just liberty-oriented events. We’ve attended film festivals, music festivals, precious metal conferences, comic conventions, and tech-savvy trade shows. Many of these are saturated with middle aged, fairly apathetic attendees, however I get the chance to interact with many of the younger participants.  Our End the Fed t-shirts and the money burning on our promotional posters seem to attract some interesting people…

Look around. We have nowhere to go but outward with the cause of liberty. Our pool of activists and supporters will not shrink. It has done nothing but increase exponentially and will continue to do so, especially with the level of distrust in the establishment today. The young people see the lies and don’t have the hard-wired baggage like the adults that have been forced to accept the statist way of living. A statist way of living that has lead to their prosperity’s demise.

The young people we’ve met at comic conventions share with us their anti-authoritarian beliefs indirectly by living as non-conformists and disliking the idea of something controlling them (as seen in their hobby of choice and speech). We step in to help them identify one culprit…The Federal Reserve. At one comic convention I was even approached by a young boy asking about the silver ounces on the table and he told me who controlled the money. I won’t sit here and say that all comic fans are anarchists, but gosh darnit there are quite a few and once they find out that liberty is a great path to seek out their preferred lifestyle, I have faith they’ll join the movement in no time.

An interesting place to find other liberty-minded individuals is the precious metals world. Sure they understand the importance of sound money, but that doesn’t automatically mean they support civil disobedience and want to demolish government. Precious metal investors are unique liberty-minded individuals with one big slice of the whole liberty pie.  I see people in their late teens up to late 20’s getting involved in metal investing, which is a new phenomenon according to the vets. Younger adults recognize metal’s intrinsic value and that the dollar doesn’t hold a candle to its performance through the past year. The young have also seen many of their family members suffer through the recession and lose a lot of their investment profits. The number of investors will increase over time, if not by the exceptional job the Fed has done on inflating the dollar, but sheer word of mouth. A friend of Silver Circle started his daughter off with the importance of real money by giving her a .10 oz Silver Circle Round for her lost tooth. Cute and brilliant move!

With all of my experience as evidence, I see Generation Next finding itself lost in a sea of lies, but instead of what recent generations have done (comply), they will begin to form their own liberty voice that with the right amount of people will overbearingly shadow any coercive language of the government or oppressors. I see the ideas of communities becoming more popular with the current generations in order to localize liberty and freedom. This type of living sans government compulsion will open up options for new ways of educating, eating, and all around thinking. Imagine a child’s upbringing in such an environment.

The best part about all the factions and subcultures of the world, and in our case filmmaking, is the common denominators we can find within them. I foresee our Generation Next of liberty growing, and its diversity will strengthen its appeal. Until then we’ll keep making movies that the punk comic kids and nerdy investors like, in hopes to bring liberty to the forefront of people’s philosophical options!
