Happiness is a habit. It doesn't really take much, but it does require some effort. During my college years people used to talk about PMA - Positive Mental Attitude. Others remind us that inside every cloud there is a silver lining. Finding that silver lining may seem more difficult in an environment where the value of the dollar continues to plummet and prices and unemployment figures skyrocket. But even in the midst of chaos it is possible to find things that make us happy.
After two federal campaigns that left me rather cynical, and a steady financial decline that eventually required me to move in with my parents, I didn't think there was very much in the world to be happy about. I'm not sure I would have recognized happiness if I saw it. But just as certainly as spring flowers will return after a bitter Chicago winter, I am seeing signs that Liberty, like love, springs eternal.
My friend, Sheriff Mack and I have spoken at many of the same patriot rallies over the years. We have actually worked together to merge my presentation on the Bill of Rights with his presentation on the Tenth Amendment, and his victorious Supreme Court challenge over the Brady Bill. Richard has been so successful that he recently started a new County Sheriff Project that hopes to gather 200 county sheriffs from across the country, and bring them to Las Vegas. He wants to give them a deeper understanding of the Constitution, and the oath they took to defend it. I am happy to know that Richard has started raising the $200,000 needed to cover the transportation and lodging expenses for the sheriffs that will be participating. I am even happier when I think of what life will be like when we have people willing to throw federal agents out of the county, or arrest them for violating the rights of the people. You can make me happier still by visiting CountySheriffProject.org and contributing to this worthy cause.
I got a phone call recently asking me to teach my Constitution class in Oklahoma City. When I asked what the venue would be, I was told that I would be teaching on the floor of the state legislature. Representative Charles Key has invited me to teach at the capitol, and he hopes to have a significant percentage of the current legislature in attendance on January 14th. This makes me extremely happy! Before I could publish this good news on my website I received several requests to hold similar classes in other states. Instantly, Operation: Domino Effect was born, and I now hope to offer classes in several state capitols across the country in 2012. This should make you very happy, indeed. If it would make you happier to have your state legislature attended my class, send me the name, address, and contact information for the Speaker of the House, and the Senate President Pro Tempore for where you live. I will send them invitations to be the next to jump on the Constitutional bandwagon. My eMail address is scholar@ConstitutionPreservation.org
I admit that I had become pessimistic about the chances of making any significant political change by way of the election process. So when a young lady called me from Colorado asking for my advice about her campaign for Congress, I told her not to do it. I warned her that it would be an unsuccessful, uphill battle that would end in defeat. I urged her to direct her energies toward a different project. Naturally I was a taken aback when she called to say that she had decided to run against my advice, and that she still wanted my help.
I am happy to report that she has restored my enthusiasm for engaging the enemy in political battle. She has convinced me that she has a legitimate chance of winning her election so she can "cut off the head of the snake" in Washington. After watching her for a week on the campaign trail, I am happy to endorse Tisha Casida for Congress in Colorado's 3rd District. If you'd like to investigate this source of happiness for yourself, her website is Casida2012.com.
Many of us have been waiting for Liberty, and searching for the Promised Land for several decades. The time has come. The time is now. Look around and I'm sure you'll find projects that can use your help. Get involved! Rededicate yourself to the cause of Liberty! It will make you very happy again.
