Traveling the world this year has been pretty fun. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to spend my 
Mountain Hours Currency that my buddy, Wayne, and I started up in Summit County, Colorado, while traveling. I did, however, spend quite a few Bitcoins! Bitcoins, the crypto currency of the internet, absolutely exploded this year. A little while ago, 10,000 bit coins would buy you a pizza. Today 10,000 bitcoins are worth a million U.S. Dollars!
My wife, Stephanie, and I decided to see firsthand how popular the currency is around the world. We spent New Year's in the UK networking with the bitcoin pioneers there. In London, they have created bitcoin swap meet flea market events where everyone brings products to buy and sell, and the currency used is bitcoin through the blockchain app on everyone's smart phone. Paying phone-to-phone is really convenient. It was great to see!
We then went out to see them in action in, New York City, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Detroit, Phoenix, Nashville, Denver, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Anchorage, Vegas, Miami, Honolulu, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. Wow, the stories I could tell.
There are still a lot of people who didn't know what bit coins were. I had them download the blockchain app onto their phones, and then I gave them some bitcoins so they could see how it works. I've probably given away at least $10,000 worth of bitcoins this past year. I've become a disciple!
After meeting other Bitcoin pioneers at Porcfest in NH, we decided to head out to Europe for a couple months to introduce the idea to the people there. They loved it in Iceland, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Germany, Portugal, France, Belgium, Italy, Czech, Spain and Holland.
Last night, I spent bitcoins in Amsterdam for some marijuana. The guy who sold it to me saw me the next day and said, "Hey, those bitcoins you gave me yesterday have gone up in value 3% today!" I told him, "Yea, pretty cool huh? Better than watching the Euro and U.S. Dollar lose value right?"
I can't wait for the day when everything I buy can be purchased with bitcoins! Until then, I'm going to keep sharing the message with everyone I come across!
