Salt River Project has begun purchasing more than 500,000 smart meters it plans to install, thanks in part to a $56.9 million stimulus grant from the U.S. Government. Smart meters are designed to give constant information both to utilities and homeowners about how they are using energy. The projects are part of ARRA grants nationwide with a goal to improve the implementation of a national smart grid for electricity.
