First Ender’s Game Trailer Has Kids, Alien War, Ben Kingsley

In case Iron Man 3 didn’t have enough Ben Kingsley for you (and really, there’s never too much Kingsley), Summit has released the first trailer for Ender’s Game and – in addition to all the alien war heroics – it’s got a menacingly face-tattooed Kingsley front-and-center.

Promising the brilliant Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield) that his training is intended to make him “the last” great commander to come out of Battle School, Kingsley’s Mazer Rackham dictates that Wiggin has what it takes to be a formidable force in Earth’s war against the alien race known as the Formics.

Based on Orson Scott Card’s story of same name, Ender’s Game follows a series of young recruits being trained by Colonel Hyrum Graff (Harrison Ford) to become the next Rackham, a half-Maori International Fleet commander who saved the planet from the last Formics attack. Graff ordains Wiggin the one most likely to save the human race and promotes him to Command School. “If you succeed,” he says in the new trailer. “You’ll be remembered as a hero.” No pressure, little guy.

Beyond that, this trailer for director Gavin Hood‘s new flick is a lot of what you’d expect: Quick shots of the young cast – which includes Little Miss Sunshine’s Abigail Breslin as Wiggin’s sister Valentine and True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld as Petra Arkanian – lots of fairly epic-looking alien battle scenes and Wiggin taking up the call to action. The trailer also includes a link to the recently-launched Tumblr for the flick. Go ahead and give it a follow, the movie doesn’t come out until Nov. 1, so it might be the best way to tied yourself over until Ender’s Game hits theaters.
