The United States Navy is planning to launch its $56 million underwater drone project in 2014. The project, known as Slocum Glider, does not require fuel but instead moves up and down and in and out of underwater currents. The drone is not designed for attack missions but to collect data and eventually assist in disarming underwater mines.
