Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri recently criticized popular physician Doctor Oz over his recommendations for natural dietary supplements. The medical doctor has been an advocate for unroasted green bean coffee extract as a tool for weight loss.
Senator McCaskill said, "I get that you do a lot of good on your show, but I don't get why you need to say this stuff, because you know it's not true."
Mehmet Oz, better known as Doctor Oz, is a cardiothoracic surgeon with two medical doctorates. He has practiced medicine for over 30 years, and is a professor in the Department of Surgery at Columbia University. McCaskill graduated with a degree in law from the University of Missouri. She has worked in politics nearly her entire adult life.
The 60-year-old senator also received more than 146,000 dollars in campaign donations from pharmaceutical companies and food manufacturers. These include prescription drug manufacturer Express Scripts and the controversial food producer Monsant
