The run-up to the Winter Olympics in Sochi were hardly rosy, but the problems in Brazil go beyond infrastructure. There are health concerns, safety concerns and dead bodies washing up on popular beaches. 

Just this week, Brazilian scientists discovered that a drug-resistant "super bacteria" is lurking in the waters off some of Rio's most popular beaches (into which, by the way, the city dumps raw human sewage). The waters will soon be filled with Olympic sailors, some of whom have already reported "severe" skin irritation during practice runs.

Olympic sailors have also reported that the white sails of their boats are turning brown due to an oil slick in the water.
