South Korea Confirms That John Bolton Is Sabotaging Trump's Peace Talks

President Donald Trump's diplomacy is under attack, and the enemy is within. National security advisor John Bolton, who served in the George W. Bush administration and supported wars in Iraq and Libya, is doing his best to sabotage Trump's progress with North Korea.

South Korean leaders are openly expressing their dismay with Bolton, who has scorned diplomatic measures and called for endless belligerence pertaining to North Korea throughout his decades as a public figure.

"There are several landmines on the way to the summit between North Korea and the U.S.," South Korean lawmaker Chung Dong-young said to a Seoul-based radio show, as reported by the Washington Post. "One of those landmines just exploded: John Bolton."

Another South Korean lawmaker, Woo Sang-ho – who is a member of South Korean President Moon Jae-in's Democratic Party – wrote a Facebook post lamenting Bolton's "preposterous" notion of invoking the "Libya model" as the basis of North Korean peace talks. Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi complied with US demands to denuclearize, which left him completely defenseless when US and NATO forces overthrew his regime in 2011.

North Korea has expressed similar sentiments regarding Bolton, whose reckless rhetoric is holding Trump back from achieving his strategic goals.

"We shed light on the quality of Bolton already in the past, and we do not hide our feelings of repugnance towards him," said Kim Kye Gwan, who serves as North Korea's vice minister of foreign affairs. "We are no longer interested in a negotiation that will be all about driving us into a corner and making a one-sided demand for us to give up our nukes and this would force us to reconsider whether we would accept the North Korea-U.S. summit meeting."
