Disney Plus Release, Firefly Reboot currently titled Firefly Still Flyin and Episode 1 Athenia Title Explained. What happened after the events of the Serenity Movie 2005. Firefly Comics Explained, the Firefly comics continued the story after the events of the Serenity Movie with Mal and Inara together, Zoe having Wash's Baby Emma, Kaylee and Simon together, River Tam pilot of the Serenity. The crew still on the run from the Alliance, and rogue psychics from the alliance like River Tam with the same powers and abilities. Revealing there were way more people they experimented on.

Several characters return including Chiwetel Ejiofor's The Operative, and we learn more about the backstory of Book's character. And other questions raised during the original Firefly series and later Serenity Movie that were never answered or explored in depth.

Alan Tudyk is returning as Wash, but they have not explained how he is alive again. If the series will take place before the Serenity Movie, or if they will include his character in the new series in some other way. But he will participate in the series.

Marc Guggenheim from Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and the other Arrowverse projects is showrunning with his IRL wife Tara Butters, who did Agent Carter, Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, The Boys Gen V and other shows. 

Joss Whedon is not currently returning, but Nathan Fillion has said he gave his blessing for them to continue Firefly. And they got the legal rights from Fox and Disney to make the series. And are currently figuring out season 1 with an estimated 2028-2029 release date.
