Terror Attacks in Tehran

by Stephen Lendman

On Wednesday, assailants attacked Iran's parliament and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini mausoleum - a developing story, more details to come as confirmed.

Iranian media reported at least 12 deaths, dozens wounded, assailants armed with Kalashnikovs and handguns. A suicide bomber blew himself up on the parliament's fourth floor.

So did another at the Khomeini shrine, a third bomber killed before detonating his explosives.

No lawmakers were harmed. Two security guards were killed, along with two assailants, at least one captured, one or more others on the run.

Security forces cordoned off the areas. A journalist said he "was inside parliament when shooting happened. Everyone was shocked and scared. I saw two men shooting randomly."

MPs took refuge inside the building. Anti-Terrorism Special Forces were deployed to the scene.

An assailant at the Khomeini mausoleum was killed, two others arrested. Members of another terrorist group were captured before being able to carry out an attack.

ISIS claimed responsibility through its Amaq news agency. Without proof, it's posturing. America created and supports the terrorist group. Were CIA dirty hands involved in what happened?

An Intelligence Ministry's Counterterrorism Department official said several terrorist teams entered Tehran earlier on Wednesday.

The Tehran Province Security Council met in emergency session following the incidents.
