Goldwater Institute Informal Celebration TONIGHT!
Written by Ed Vallejo Subject: Events: ArizonaSaving the best for last, the USSC handed the Goldwater Institute a groundbreaking victory this morning on the last day of its term. The USSC reversed the 9th Circuit, eliminating Arizona’s matching funds, at last removing the government’s thumb from electoral scales.
In its 5-4 ruling, the Court wrote, “The First amendment embodies our choice as a Nation that, when it comes to [campaign] speech, the guiding principle is freedom---the ‘unfettered exchange of ideas’---not whatever the State may view as fair.” This decision immediately eliminates government matching funds in campaign finance schemes in Arizona and a half-dozen other states around the country.
Please join us at the Goldwater Institute this evening, Tuesday, June 28, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. for an informal celebration and thank you for our supporters who made this long-fought battle possible.
Thank you,
Todd McLauchlin
