"introduce legislation that would make it illegal to bring a gun within 1,000 feet of a government official,"

Would that include Police?

I could see this Jared kid saying.."I want to do it, but that damn law says I can't get within a 1000 feet of them....ohhh well...I guess I will have to get out my long range rifle...cause I want to stay within the law"

This proves once again left or right, these losers just don't understand the concept of governing based on principle.  One emotion soaked incident and it becomes the template case in point for every situation regarding citizen’s gun rights.  This tragic event is the exception that proves the rule.  While the left is desperately trying to connect the shooter with the Tea Party at all costs… and idiocy, some on the right propose a knee jerk reaction that will solve nothing.  Do you think that if the shooter was determined to kill that he would pause for one second to think about whether or not he would get arrested for carrying a weapon too close to an elected official?  It’s a ridiculous grand stand move that will only endanger honest citizens, that is assuming that such a law would in any way be enforceable or able to be obeyed by a citizen.  What happens if a citizen is carrying a weapon, concealed or otherwise as is legal in Arizona, and they inadvertently come too close to a public official that they may or may not recognize as such?  This is glaringly stupid and only serves to highlight what fools we have elected.  Frankly if there was a citizen carrying who was at this event they very well could have saved more lives as a result and saved the state prosecuting this murderer to boot.

Great another Unconstitutional law.  What's the count now about 99% of the laws are null and void because they are Unconstitutional?

WE ALL KNOW WHERE THIS IS GOING.... THE TOTAL OUTLAWING OF GUNS AND MAKING EVERYONE A CRIMINAL.  BETTER PUT OUR FEET DOWN HERE AND QUITE REDRAWING LINES IN THE SAND AS WE ARE ABOUT TO BACK OFF A CLIFF WHILE DOING SO!

The man actually looks possed by a demon. I am not kidding please take a look at the evil SOB. We are a nation ruled by evil ungodly demons. If not in fact the effect is the same.  Satan himself could not do a better job of destroying this once great country.  Get your ass off the couch and start raising hell while you still can.

Let me see if I understand this correctly - they want to make it unlawful for an armed cadre of concerned citizens to surround and PROTECT their elected official when they meet with them out in public?  Isn't this tantamount to cutting their own throats?

Imagine had this been RON PAUL meeting in public with Arizonans?  Would Mr. Loughner been able to even POINT a firearm at Ron without all hell breaking loose, much less than shoot him, and then kill six other people before being disarmed when attempting to reload!?!  No way in hell. NO WAY IN HELL! I tell's ya...
