What is a gun? What is a knife? What is a rock? What is a golf club? What is an atomic bomb? These are all examples of inanimate objects... except if they are activated in some way.

What is a human being? This is not an inanimate object. It is an activator.

Most people are mild, loving, friendly, yet filled with a touch of larceny. A few people are monsters.

The only people strong enough to disarm the people are not the mild, loving, friendly ones. It is the monsters who have enough gall to disarm the people. But, of course, they won't disarm themselves.
