The movie made famous the real quote uttered by Mather Byles, Cotton Mather’s grandson, to Nathaniel Emmons in Massachusetts.

Aye, vote against your masters in Britain. But do not swap them for a similar bunch of ruling thugs in Edinburgh. Be Scotsmen. Be free. And what does freedom mean? It means something. It means be free from what? From government.
