Ten Reasons Why Government Doesn’t Work - OMG

• Letter

1.       People instinctually vote for what is in their own best interest negating the benefits of the majority decision making process known as suffrage (the ability to vote) in a democracy.

2.       Those that end up in positions of political power generally use that power for personal gain. Once again another instinctual trait especially for those with greater political ambitions.

3.       The very entity which is supposed to promote equality and justice (government) must use force, coercion and collusion to extract the necessary funding for its existence making it antithetic to its primary purpose of protecting individual rights. The conflict that this creates in principle, in theory and in historical experience is not resolves using suffrage.

4.       People end up wasting inordinate amounts of money, time, energy and effort seeking political power and fighting and debating over the volumes of taxation and spending issues rather that doing truly productive things; once again, primarily for their own self interests. The cost in accounting alone attempting to fulfill the obligations of the Income tax is in the $100’s millions.

5.       The redistribution of wealth becomes an ever increasing way of life rather than a means to an end. Government historically expands in size and costs until it literally bankrupts itself and the Citizens. The US and several other countries are now at that point, called stagflation for which there is no cure that does not harm one or more socio-economic levels.

6.       The legalization of coercive force necessary to fund government programs promotes corruption as those with the police power (government) once again act in their own self interests in the manipulation of laws, protecting and expanding revenue streams, the protection from prosecution and the selective enforcement towards political opponents, civilians and business competition.

7.       Because many people erroneously believe that government can provide better products and services than the free markets can’t provide on its own. The results are that government either provides a worst product or service or that it will cost multiples times more than it should if it is able to produce a good product or service. Hence why we have ended up with a $1.3 annual deficit, high homelessness, unemployment, bankruptcies and tent cities in America. Don’t get me wrong, our roadway medians are very nice; but check out the long term maintenance.

8.       Government attempts to provide a safety net but can only do so by taking property by force, coercion and collusion from those it rightfully belongs to and by giving it to those that it doesn’t rightfully belong to. This of course causes even greater misallocation of resources, conflict between those that are being taken from and those that are taking the property, and greater individual irresponsibility and hopelessness, eventually ripping the safety net under the burden of the lack of production and costs of conflict.

9.       Because the free market does a better job. The free market is based on voluntary cooperation. If you don’t like the product or service being provided by a company, we don’t have to buy it. Try doing that with government. The difficult thing is to trust that there is always someone that has a similar interest as you in the things that you think are important. For instance national defense. If you don’t think that most men, especially the wealthy, are willing to spend either their time, money or both on national defense, history has proven you wrong. The same goes for private security, utilities and other infrastructure and there is tons of factual evidence for this.  The lack of knowledge and understanding of just how the free markets works, is mind blowing.  Come on, almost every cherished item in our lives is provided by free enterprise. Your car, clothing, home, car seat, tampons, etc.

10.   Because government will always try to control justice.  It therefore gives government the ability to legally usurp individual rights and the method to protect themselves while doing so.

As you should now understand from a sociological standpoint, “government” as we know it today, that we have been attempting to make work for some 5,000 to 6,000 years, doesn’t have a change of working, if we allow government to continue to use force, coercion and collusion as it means of funding its existence. Until someone comes up with some way to run society using voluntary cooperation, society will be burdens by all the negative ramifications of conflict created and noted above under its current methodology. Thinking that you can and should be able to force your neighbors to do things that they disagree with, has never ever worked for a prolonged period of time and thinking that the majority will come up with the right solution is irrational and historically very inaccurate.

Believing that mankind is instinctually evil is a religious dogma perpetrated by the church and state in collusion to gain the power to tax through force, collusion or coercion. It is the concept of government itself that perpetuates evil, by it mere existence as it legalizes force and coercion through mass collusion, at the expense of the individual and their rights.  An individual cannot use force or coercion against his fellow human being, because it is wrong and what is called “malum in se”; a Latin phrase meaning “wrong or evil in itself”. Believing that we can legalize force, coercion and collusion for the good or benefit of the majority is literally legalizing evil and has been shown to be an erroneous concept and historically inaccurate. The fish as we know does rot from the head down and that is historically true with government and the society it heads.

Don’t fret, there is always a solution.  The U.S. Constitution actually laid a pretty good, although not good enough, foundation, in my opinion, to promote a civil society.  It did attempt to limit government and therefore limited taxation to fund it. That didn’t work however, did it? The Judiciary slowly gave government more and more power and continually has usurped individual rights over the history of our nation, except for only a few instances, the abolition of slavery, women’s suffrage and civil rights, being slightly different than individual rights which I will not go into now. Thomas Jefferson, although he was not actually at the Constitutional Convention, some think, purposely assigned to the French Ambassadorship during that period because of his uncompromising personality, did warn of the lack of judicial oversight and more importantly, the Citizens ability to achieve recourse, before its adoption. I believe he is right.

There are only then, several possibilities as to correcting this problem. One is to attempt to correct the current system, or two, come up with a better system that would be a competitive free market derived system or a combination of both. I am of the belief that the less force, coercion and collusion you have in a society the more likely that a civil society will result.

First, we know that we must come up with some improvements, so therefore before we do anything we must come up with a better judicial system itself and perhaps a way in which to slowly wean society off the currently corrupted system.  Obviously, we just can’t go cold turkey.

Go to the new and improved Repairing the Scales of Justice website http://rsjexperiment.wordpress.com/home/ for my ideas, join us and let’s see if we can make something happen that actually will make a difference.

These are another way of looking at some of the issues noted above:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give someone something the government does not first take from somebody.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it, wealth must be created.

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation and is the primary reason why socialism and the redistribution of wealth it promotes, doesn’t work over the long period.

I agree that the judiciary is the branch that was used to most greatly increase illegitimate exercise of power from the federal level.   (I'm sorta' with Sobran en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Sobran  on that - he felt that almost every act committed by the federal government since the Civil War was unconstitutional)

This is amazing.  The supremacy clause recognizes the constitution itself, plus legislation and treaties passed in pursuance of the constitution as the supreme law of the land.  Court rulings are not included on that list.

Among the items listed as causes of current government failings/abuses, an apathetic, ineffective Citizenry is to be counted.
