Guns Flow South Thanks to U.S.

The federal government has failed to develop an coordinated strategy to stop the illegal trafficking of firearms into Mexico, according to a new government report.

The General Accountability Office investigation cites Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives data that approximates 87% of firearms seized by Mexican authorities and submitted to the U.S. for tracing in the last five years came from the U.S., and found that roughly one quarter of the guns seized are high-caliber, high-powered assault style weapons, including AK-47s and AR-15s.

Thanks for continuing to follow this story Powell.

The Border Patrol has stated publicly on several occasions that one of the justifications for conducting internal 'immigration' checkpoints is to look for guns amongst other things.

Why the second amendment crowd hasn't jumped on this yet is beyond me. Perhaps they despise immigrants more than they love their guns?

Meet the new report.  Same as the old report.  Only problem with lies, damned lies and statistics is that the Mexican government only forwards those guns it believes originate from the USA to the BATF (about one in ten guns they confiscate).  The rest come from arms dealers (shipments) and are more typically fully automatic rifles (M4s, M16s, AK47s).

So 87% of rifles submitted to the BATF originated in the USA or one out of every 11 or 12 confiscated by the Mexican government (i.e.,
