Judges’ Dissents for Death Row Inmates Are Rising

• NY Times
It took just 80 words for a federal appeals court to deny Kevin Cooper’s most recent plea to avoid execution. But attached to that order was a forceful 101-page dissent by a judge, all but pleading to spare Mr. Cooper’s life.

A judge in a safe and protected court room  can decide that some animal has the right to live.

That decision costs you sixty thousand a year.  That is a hundred children with health care.

That is two new teachers in your school.

That is another policeman on the streets.

That means two jobs in the private sector.

But a fool who would never allow this animal near him or his family can say that you should pay for his up keep, legal costs, court time and it is the right thing to do.

I say to each judge and religious group, if this man is so important (!) you take him into your home and be responsible for him instead of taking money away from my kids, town and state so he can spend his days in a heated cell, with more food then 20 million children and has clean bedding and clothes every three days.

There are many individuals who are not safe and should not be kept for decades at your expense.
