Water purification: absolutely required. The shown product looks nice, the Sport Berkey is much cheaper. Purification tabs are better than nothing but they don't remove chemical/metal contamination.

Also shelter. A big plastic garbage bag is way better than nothing. You can actually crawl inside one, stuff leaves or pine needles all around you and make it.

Remember, you can freeze or dehydrate to death way faster than starving.
