U.S. tariffs on hold 30 days after Canada commits to beef up border security
• Regina Leader-PostOTTAWA — Canada has agreed to deploy its $1.3-billion border enhancement plan, along with thousands of frontline personnel to strengthen security on the U.S. boundary in exchange for the White House pausing promised 25-per-cent tariffs for 30 days.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement on social media on Monday afternoon shortly after his second call of the day with U.S. President Donald Trump.
