California Lawmakers Introduce The "Stop Nick Shirley Act"
• ZeroHedge, Liberty Lens and NewsMaxA new law has been proposed by Democrat lawmakers in California that critics say aims to shut down investigative journalism has been nicknamed the 'Stop Nick Shirley Act.' The law would prevent future journalists like Nick Shirley from identifying the locations tied to taxpayer theft schemes.
Nick Shirley wrote, "California is trying to pass a bill that would criminalize investigative journalism with misdemeanors, $10,000 fines, imprisonment, and content takedown."
ZeroHedge wrote: "The law would be a direct violation of the 1st Amendment, which is why Democrats included language of "violence and threats", giving them a legal loophole which they hope will help them to circumvent freedom of speech protections. If passed, it would allow any organization or fraud group involved in taxpayer theft to simply declare that they "feel threatened" or "have been threatened" and ostensibly force a citizen journalist to censor videos and articles that discuss the group's criminal activities.
In other words, Democrats are creating laws designed to protect criminals and criminalize free speech, but what else is new. They didn't seem to have a problem with CNN harassing MAGA grannies."
.
The text of the bill says it would, "Prohibit a person, business, or association from soliciting, selling, or trading on the internet the personal information or image of a designated immigration support services provider, employee, or volunteer."
Nick Shirley says the bill, which some have dubbed the Stop Nick Shirley Act, is an attack on investigative journalism.
Excerpt from Shirley on X: "C California is trying to pass a bill that would criminalize investigative journalism with misdemeanor, $10,000 fines, imprisonment, and content takedown under AB 2624. Government funded entities like the Somali learning daycare centers would be protected from being exposed if they operate inside California."
