Banksy becomes a way into a bigger question here, because once rebellious art starts being protected, promoted, or tolerated depending on the message it carries, it gets harder to tell where counterculture ends and institutional approval begins, and whether modern culture is still capable of producing anything genuinely oppositional at all.
