America's Ruthless Imperial War Agenda

by Stephen Lendman

Peace and stability defeat America's interests. Endless premeditated wars of aggression against invented enemies serve it.

No matter which wing of its one-party state runs things, dirty business as usual continuity is maintained - horrors inflicted on humanity for wealth and dominance.

War is glorified in the name of peace. It's part of the national culture. Pacifism is considered unpatriotic and sissy.

War has been ongoing throughout US history at home and abroad against invented enemies, the nation not experiencing a single year of peace.

Its war on humanity rages. Its homicide rate is by far the highest among all developed countries. US streets and communities of color are battlegrounds.

Guns don't protect. They kill. Gun-related violence is out-of-control. Cops kill over 1,100 annually, mostly defenseless Black youths, murdered in cold blood unaccountably.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control, lethal shootings claim over 30,000 US lives annually. Around 100,000 Americans are gun violence victims each year.

Homeland gun-related fatalities and injuries annually exceed all post-9/11 US combat theater casualties combined.

Labor Day weekend in my home city of Chicago showed what people in impoverished neighborhoods face, mainly Black and Latino ones: 65 gun-related casualties, including 13 fatalities in three days alone.

Much the same continues nationwide throughout the year. America is a war zone for millions of its citizens, authorities uncaring if they live or die.

Abroad things are worse, America at war directly or through terrorist proxies in multiple theaters. Post-9/11, millions perished, mostly defenseless civilians, survivors enduring a living hell.

Imperialism ignores body counts. Mass slaughter and destruction continue endlessly, airbrushed from media scoundrel reports - US ravaging and destroying one country after another portrayed as humanitarian intervention, responsibility to protect, and democracy building, notions neocon-infested Washington scorn.

"If we don't end war, war will end us," HG Wells earlier warned. The late Gore Vidal once said "(s)ince VJ day 1945…(America has) been engaged in what historian Charles A. Beard called 'perpetual war for perpetual peace.' "

"I have occasionally referred to our 'enemy of the month club.' Each month we are confronted with a new horrendous enemy at whom we must strike before he destroys us."

Once US ally Saddam became America's "enemy of he month" for over a decade before being removed and murdered, Gaddafi and others treated the same way. Today's friend is tomorrow's enemy and vice versa, Vidal explained, adding:

"(O)ur leaders tell us that these military engagements are all justified. However, those bearing the brunt of our bombs don't necessarily see it that way."

"Nor should the American taxpayer, who is paying for a vast arsenal and getting even less security in exchange.

Ultimately, it is hard to imagine that Islamic terrorists spend much time worrying about the freedom Americans enjoy to eat at McDonald's or watch MTV."

"As it is, Americans are losing their freedoms" without noticing or seeming to care - police state tyranny controlling them.

Anyone challenging imperial ruthlessness risks the full brunt America's might - by political imprisonment, assassination or other means.

This 15th 9/11 anniversary weekend is a good time to reflect and assess America's greater than ever ruthlessness in its aftermath.

That fateful day changed everything. War on humanity was declared at home and abroad, raging endlessly.

America's megalomaniacal quest for unchallenged world dominance may kill us all.

An article on 9/11's 15th anniversary, already written, will be published on Sunday.
