Russia Responds to US Aggression in Syria

by Stephen Lendman

In March 2011, Obama launched proxy aggression to oust Assad and destroy Syrian sovereignty - using ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorist foot soldiers.

In September 2014, US-led warplanes began terror-bombing northern Syria infrastructure and government targets - on the phony pretext of combating terrorism, massacring civilians indiscriminately, US high crimes ignored by media scoundrels.

On April 7, Trump launched naked aggression against Syria's Shayrat airbase, defying international and constitutional law - likely intending further attacks, based on phony accusations of Syrian use of CWs, weapons it destroyed and no longer has.

America's contempt for rule of law principles is longstanding, operating by a might makes right standard, waging endless wars on humanity for unchallenged global dominance - heading for almost certain eventual nuclear war if its madness isn't stopped.

On Wednesday, Putin blasted Trump's aggression for attacking Syria preemptively, based on a Big Lie.

"How did NATO allies react," he asked? "They have all been nodding like bobbleheads, without analyzing the events."

"Where is evidence of chemical weapons use by Syrian troops? There is none. Was there a breach of the international law? Yes, there was. This is an evident fact."

"Without an approval by the UN Security Council, an airstrike is carried out on a sovereign country. And, despite it being a clear violation of the international law, everyone agrees to it, accepts it and starts nodding (in approval) and expressing their support."

Russia's "level of trust (in America) at the working level, especially at the military level, hasn't become better. It has, in fact, eroded" under Trump.

"Everyone knows that we carried out great work…to destroy all chemical weapons in possession of the Syrian authorities."

"They carried out their work. They met all their obligations…This was confirmed by a corresponding special organization in the United Nations. If there are any doubts, this inspection can be carried out."

Anti-government terrorists "repeatedly used (CWs) and nobody argues with this." Blaming Syria irresponsibly is used as a pretext for escalating war.

Separately, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned Trump's strike as willful "aggression" against a sovereign state. He rejected false accusations of Russian involvement in concealing Syria's (nonexistent) role in the Khan Sheikhoun incident.

Putin called it a "false flag," erroneously blamed on Assad.

During his meeting with Rex Tillerson, Sergey Lavrov said "we saw rather alarming steps…an unlawful attack against Syria…"

H stressed the importance of avoiding repeat incidents, virtually certain to occur, based on further Big Lies.

On Wednesday, Security Council members will vote on a draft US/UK/French resolution on Syria Russia called "inadmissible."

It prepared its own resolution, calling for a full investigation by UN and OPCW experts.

Syria's Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Sousan said "(t)he lies and allegations which were circulated by the US administration and the conspiring countries on Syria are no more than pretexts to escalate the situation and thwart the efforts to find a solution for the current crisis in Syria."

Russia said it'll provide access for OPCW investigators to visit Syria's Shayrat airbase - to prove it has no traces or other evidence of CW use there.

On Tuesday, Russian General Sergey Rudskoy said "(e)xperts are aware that it is impossible to conceal the traces of chemical weapons."

Syria's government will grant access to OPCW experts, he added. "(T)he Syrian army does not have any" CWs, he stressed - "documented and confirmed by the OPCW representatives."

Draw your own conclusions about the April 4 incident and Trump's response. Mine is unambiguously clear!
