Russophobic NYT Slams Putin/Trump Summit

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The Times is militantly hostile to Russia, repeating and promoting false accusations against the country and Vladimir Putin personally - truth-telling banished from its reports.

Any and all phony pretexts are red meat for Times Russia bashing. In late June, it called Trump/Putin talks in Helsinki a "too-friendly summit…a meeting of kindred spirits, and that's a problem" - disgracefully calling Russia's democratically president an "autocrat."

Separately, the self-styled newspaper of record supports Israeli Ziofascist rule, US installed Nazi-infested putschists in Ukraine - along with nary a critical word about the tyrannical Saudi regime and other tinpot despots allied with Washington's war machine.

It cheerleads NATO's killing machine, falsely calling the alliance "the anchor of Western security…(its) nations mostly democracies with vibrant free markets…have helped America keep enemies at bay…"

Fantasy democracies comprise NATO, not legitimate ones, especially in America. So-called "free markets" aren't fair, serving monied interests exclusively at the expense of the general welfare, exploiting people for profit, inventing enemies because real ones don't exist.

On Thursday, a Times commentary argued for containing Trump and Putin, falsely claiming "many people in Moscow (believe the US president is) an easy mark for manipulation," adding he "can be duped."

Anything positive-sounding following summit talks will likely be described this way - Russophobic propaganda instead of evenhanded reporting.

A July 10 Times piece hostile to Moscow asked: "How Fraught Is Meeting With Russia? Just Ask Republican Senators," calling diplomacy with Moscow "treacherous…amid (its) brazen aggression abroad" - a bald-faced lie.

US wars of aggression rage endlessly in multiple theaters, falsely considered liberating struggles by the Times, ignoring the horrendous human toll, ongoing US-led Nuremberg-level high crimes - none of this by Russia. Claiming otherwise turns truth on its  - a daily Times specialty, deceiving its readers, not informing them!

Last week, the Times quoted former de facto NATO secretary general when nominally serving as its second in command former senior US war department official Alexander Vershbow, turning truth on its head claiming:

"Putin is very clever in giving a distorted and self-serving version of history on some of these substantive issues."

"He can charm Trump into changing his position or dropping longstanding US positions if he's alone with him for too long" - disgraceful remarks.

Former Obama regime national security advisor Susan Rice never met a US war of aggression she didn't wholeheartedly endorse.

In a Times op-ed, she roared that "Trump must not capitulate to Putin." Russia's leader seeks mutually cooperative relations with all nations, not dominance over them the way America operates globally.

Rice disgracefully called upcoming Putin/Trump summit talks "a dangerous and counterproductive undertaking.  The risks are many and the benefits, if any, are difficult to discern," adding:

Trump "should never be allowed to meet solo with," Putin, shamefully calling it "a recipe for disaster."

Like other Russophobes in Washington along with media scoundrels, Rice considers anything positive from summit talks hostile to longstanding adversarial US policy on Russia.

Another Times commentary headlined "Ask Putin about nerve agents," promoting the Big Lie about the March Salisbury and July Amesbury incidents in Britain, falsely blaming Russia for what it had nothing to do with.

On Monday, Putin and Trump will meet for summit talks in Helsinki - plenty of time for lots more Russophobic Times and other scoundrel media reports - aiming to denigrate anything positive-sounding from the meeting.
