Facebook Restores Telesur Page - For How Long?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

In cahoots with dark forces in Washington, Facebook is an anti-social media censoring machine.

It's waging war on truth-telling, wanting views conflicting with the official narrative silenced - the hallmark of totalitarian societies, America on a slippery slope toward becoming one.

On Monday, Facebook took down Telesur's English language page for the second time this year, falsely claiming it was for violating FB's Terms of Use and other phony pretexts.

Targeting Telesur, Venezuela Analysis, Infowars, and other alternative sources of news, information and analysis is all about media censorship, conspiring with Washington's criminal class to silence truth-telling on vital issues.

Commenting on the restoration of its FB page, Telesur said it was done without proper explanation, adding:

FB "offered a vague technical explanation for the move that sparked concerns of censorship worldwide," an unacceptable statement saying:

"The team informs me that there was instability on the platform, which caused this problem, but now everything should be in order," according to a member of FB's technical staff.

Telesur called deleting its page for the second time this year "an alarming development in light of the recent shutting down of pages that don't fit a mainstream narrative."

Former head of Telesur English Pablo Vivanco said the network violated "absolutely none" of FB's terms of service. Claims otherwise were bald-faced lies.

Telesur reported what happened from when its FB page was taken down to its restoration two days later, saying:

On August 13, it saw a notice that "(t)his page is not available: The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed."

The same day, Telesur's social media coordinator asked for an explanation, saying:

"Can you please tell us what terms of use we have violated and if there is an appeal process? We have not violated any of the terms of Facebook and request that our page is reinstated."

FB responded, saying "(y)our Page…has been removed for violating our Terms of Use. A Facebook Page is a distinct presence used solely for business or promotional purposes."

"Among other things, Pages that are hateful, threatening or obscene are not allowed."

"We also take down Pages that attack an individual or group, or that are set up by an unauthorized individual."

"If your Page was removed for any of the above reasons, it will not be reinstated. Continued misuse of Facebook's features could result in the permanent loss of your account."

Addressing the take down issue on Tuesday, FB said "our engineering department is analyzing the case."

Hours later, FB said the issue was still unresolved, a delaying tactic. On Wednesday morning, "our page was restored as unexpectedly as it had disappeared," Telesur explained.

FB claiming instability and suspicious activity "on the platform, which caused this problem, but now everything should be in order" was a bald-faced lie.

Telesur criticized FB's statements, one citing a technical error, another mentioning "suspicious activity," one more claiming violation of FB's terms of use.

All of the above were bald-faced lies. Reliable alternative sources of news, information and analysis in America are threatened.

Allied with dark forces in Washington, Facebook and other anti-social media giants want truth-telling on vital issues silenced.
