Does the Trump Regime Intend War on Iran?
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)
Trump and regime hardliners running his geopolitical agenda are hellbent for replacing Iranian sovereign independence with US-controlled fascist tyranny.
Bush/Cheney neocons prepared war plans to attack Iran, updated over time, not implemented so far. Covert US/Israeli anti-Iran destabilizing actions have been ongoing for years.
Trump regime political, economic, financial, sanctions, and propaganda war on the Islamic Republic rages illegally.
DLT earlier lied, claiming Iran is "a corrupt dictatorship…whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed, and chaos," adding:
"We cannot let a murderous regime continue these destabilizing activities while building dangerous missiles."
He and other regime officials lied, claiming Iran supports the scourge of regional terrorism it's combatting - ISIS and likeminded jihadists created and supported by Washington.
He lied accusing Iran of being "under the control of a fanatical regime that seized power in 1979 and forced a proud people to submit to its extremist rule," adding:
It "raided the wealth of one of the world's oldest and most vibrant nations, and spread death, destruction, and chaos all around the globe" - a US, NATO, Israeli specialty. The Islamic Republic is the Middle East's leading proponent of peace and stability.
Pompeo threatened Iran numerous times, again in early January, warning the Islamic Republic against its legitimate right to launch satellites into orbit, using domestically-manufactured rockets.
He lied claiming its space rocket launches violate Security Council Resolution 2231, affirming the JCPOA nuclear deal, a legally binding international agreement the Trump regime breached by withdrawing.
It has no right to criticize Iran's legitimate commercial nuclear activities, ballistic missile development and use.
Pompeo threatened Iran saying the US "will not stand by and watch (its) destructive policies (sic) place international stability and security at risk (sic)" - US specialities, not the Islamic Republic's.
In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted:
"Iran's launch of space vehicles - & missile tests - are NOT in violation of (Resolution) 2231. The US is in material breach of same, & as such it is in no position to lecture anyone on it. Threats engender threats, while civility begets civility."
On Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said satellite launches are planned "in the coming weeks. (W)e will send two new satellites into space using our domestically-built rockets," he announced.
Late last year, Iran's Deputy Defense Minister General Qassem Taqizadeh said three satellite launches are planned early in the new year - perhaps in February, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, ending a generation of US/UK-installed tyranny.
Last month, head of Russia's UN Press, Information and Public Relations mission Fyodor Strzhizhovsky, said "the Russian Federation has no" information, indicating Iranian ballistic missiles are "designed to carry nuclear warheads."
During UN Security Council consultations on this issue, the US, UK and France "presented (no) evidence" suggesting it, adding:
"Instead of threats and sanctions, the parties concerned should engage in a full-fledged dialogue based on mutual respect. We do not believe that Iran violated UN Security Council Resolution 2231…"
"(T)here is no evidence of Iran creating infrastructure to store and service nuclear weapons."
Iran's UN mission said "(p)ortraying Iran's ballistic missile program as inconsistent with resolution 2231 or as a regional threat is a deceptive and hostile policy of the US."
Iran threatens no one. Its nuclear and ballistic missile programs fully comply with the JCPOA and other international laws.
The US and its imperial partners threaten world peace and humanity's survival. Its accusations against other countries are unsupported by evidence.
It consistently ignores its own highest of high crimes, its endless wars of aggression on humanity.
