Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney said he has scaled back plans for a straw poll in Iowa next month that two chief rivals are bypassing. He said he hopes to do well, but "we're not trying to overshoot dramatically." That means

Romney is widely perceived to be the forthcoming winner of the Iowa poll Aug. 10. He will be busing and buying ($35 a vote) Iowans who will vote for him.

Rudy and McCain decided they couldn't outspend him so they dismissed the Iowa straw poll.

Now Mr. Romney appears to want to save some cash, and not appear too far ahead of the other candidates in the vote that he pretty much knows he will win now. Interesting.

So if Ron Paul, who will not be buying votes, or one of the other "thrid tier" candidates comes in a close second, what will the MSM make of it?
