Earth was progressively smaller as we go back in time over 4 – 5 billion years it grew from a small planetesimal to a planet the size of Mars. The increasing speed of growth increased exponentially.
And when you get right down to it, when we start talking age of the universe beyond 10,000 years or so ago, it's all speculation, because we don't really have a clue what went on prior to 10,000 years ago. All of it is based on a bunch of if''s. For all we really know, the whole age of the universe might only be 10,000 years or so, and it all might have come into being instantaneously by some method we haven't been able to observe, yet.
