Freedom in The Cloud

In this video lecture Eben Moglen discusses how the current internet architectural paradigm lays waste to individual privacy. Moglen goes on to discuss an alternative paradigm that is privacy friendly. An earlier FP post about the "Diaspora" server reminded me of this.

The current paradigm employs a client/server architecture that has a relative few servers for many clients. This results in these servers aggregating the information in their logs, as well as the data volunteered by clients, which results in an inexorable erosion of user privacy. A superior architectural model employs many servers in a peer-to-peer network that results in the peers controlling the dissemination of their data.
