The new week is here and unfortunately for some areas, we can't leave the heat behind. We've got that story plus a look at your Fourth of July forecast and the increasing monsoonal moisture in the Southwest.

While we may take the edge off the heat from the levels we saw Friday into the weekend, oppressively hot conditions will persist this week.

High pressure in the upper atmosphere will shift back to the central states, focusing the core of above-average temperatures over that region of the country eastward into Mid-Atlantic.  You can see this on our Tuesday high temperature forecast map to the left which shows widespread middle/upper 90s and a few 100s.  Minneapolis, Minn., St. Louis, Mo., Chicago, Ill. and Washington, D.C. are just a few of the cities that should prepare for a sultry week ahead.
