US Manufacturing Growth Slows In August, Remains Near 34 Month Low

• http://www.businessinsider.com, Eric Platt
Manufacturing in the United States continued at a tepid growth rate in August, new data out of Markit Economics shows.

The headline index fell 40 basis points to 51.5 during the month, below preliminary reports for a 51.9 reading.

New orders and output improved during the month, both at 51.9. However, export orders remained in negative territory, at 48.8.

The reading, from research firm Markit Economics, is expected to remain in line with a preliminary reading of 51.9 released earlier this month.

At that level, it would represent moderate growth in the country's manufacturing sector — a report above 50 indicates expansion.

The release is scheduled for 8:58 a.m. ET.
